Business Degrees (continued from top)
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the corporate world. In this world, increasing profit margins is the ultimate goal for everyone involved in a corporation. Of course, those at lower levels have other more immediate goals, but those goals should coincide with selling more products and reducing operating expenses'thus increasing profits. Ideally, those who started at the bottom of the corporate ladder could keep rising as long as they exceeded their goals and were exemplary employees. Unfortunately, because the corporate world can sometimes be quite rigid, this doesn't happen. The only way for some people to work up the corporate ladder is to earn a business degree. In this country, a business degree is considered a gateway to higher level business jobs, such as analyst or upper management positions. In corporations with large human relations departments, a business degree can be one of the few litmus tests that ultimately land you an interview or a promotion.
Now that you understand the importance of a business degree, you should know a bit about what earning one entails. An undergraduate business degree usually takes 4 years to earn. Throughout this time, students are introduced to the various aspects of business including marketing, sales, and management, for example. They are usually required to take some basic economics, accounting, and corporate finance courses. Business degree students in this day and age will also generally take a few computer sciences and math courses as well, even though they aren't usually required.
Those currently in school need to both keep up their GPAs and build their resumes. To do that, many students find summer internships with companies that recruit at their schools. A few summer internships will give you valuable work experience, and will also introduce you to potential employers.
